Easy way shows you how to download photos from Google Photos, as well as upload, attach, transfer, or drag photos by using Google Drive. You will be able to download. The photos are stored in the cloud and can be accessed by signing in to the Google Photos app on your device. How to Transfer Photos From an Android Phone to a Mac

Depending on the age of your Apple computer, the first thing you'll need is a cord that will convert from micro-USB to whichever input your computer accepts.

This can range anywhere from regular USB ports, to Thunderbolt, to the latest USB-C models. For USB-C devices, you can use your existing cord and simply purchase a fairly cheap adapter that compatible with USB.

Cheaper connections can negatively impact your connections. Amazon generally has whatever you need, but if you're having trouble finding the right hardware, you may have to purchase a proprietary adapter directly from Apple.

Once you've got the right cord, transferring photos from your Android phone to a Mac or other Apple computer only requires a few steps:

  1. Download Android File Transfer and follow the installation instructions. You can also use Samsung Smart Switch.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. If the above program doesn't launch automatically, go to Finder > Applications and click the software you just installed.
  4. You'll now see all of your phone's files and can freely drag them to your Finder or desktop on your Mac computer.

How to Transfer Photos from an Android Phone to a PC

No need for special software here, you can easily transfer photos from your Android phone to a PC using the cord that came with your phone.

  1. Unlock your phone with your password or fingerprint.
  2. Connect your Android phone to your computer using a micro-USB to USB cord. Ideally, this is the same one that came with your phone.
  3. Your phone will display a message asking to grant the connected computer access to its data (see the above screenshot). Tap Allow.
  4. Select the pop-up that appears on your PC (see the screenshot below). You'll then be presented with a new window with several options. From here, you can import all your photos and video, or scroll down to simply open your phone to find which individual photos you want.
  5. Choose how you want to import photos.

Typically your phone's photos are found in DCIM > Camera within your phone's folders.

How to Transfer Photos from an iPhone to a Mac

As you might expect, iOS devices tend to play nice with each other. Here's how to transfer photos from an iPhone to Mac computer.

  1. Connect your iPhone to the computer with the cord it came with. Remember, if you have a newer Apple computer you might need an adapter.
  2. Unlock your phone and, if a prompt appears, tap Trust to confirm the device you're connected to is safe.
  3. Your Photos app should open automatically. If not, open it up by clicking the Photos icon in your dock, Finder window or Launchpad. Choose how you want to import photos and/or videos.
  4. Alternatively, you can drag pictures between folders in a Finder window to move them onto your Mac.

Once connected, open a Finder window at any time and click iPhone (or whatever you've named your device) to access its photos and other files.

How to Transfer Photos from Your iPhone to a PC

Luckily, moving pictures from an iPhone to a PC isn't too difficult, but there are a couple of additional steps.

  1. You must have iTunes installed on your computer. Ensure it's installed and is the most updated version.
  2. Connect your iPhone with a USB cable, using an adapter if needed.
  3. Unlock your iPhone.
  4. A prompt may appear asking if you trust the connected computer. If it does, tap Trust.
  5. On Windows 10 or Windows 8, open the Photos app by selecting the Start button (the one that looks like a Windows OS logo), then select Photos. Then select Import > From a USB Device. Choose your phone as the source of the transfer.
  6. For Windows 7, connect your phone and wait for the AutoPlay prompt to appear. Select Import pictures and videos using Windows, then select which photos you want to import, or choose Select All, and then select Import.

How to Use Airdrop to Transfer Photos from your iPhone to a Mac Computer

There is one additional wireless option for Apple users: you can use Airdrop to transfer images between devices.

  1. On your Mac, open a new Finder window by clicking the Finder icon in the dock (the one that looks two faces overlapping).
  2. Click Airdrop in the left navigation. If Bluetooth isn't already enabled, click Turn on Bluetooth.
  3. You will now see all Airdrop enabled devices on your Mac. Note that you may need to click
  4. On your iPhone, open the Photos app and find the pictures you want to transfer to your computer. Click the Share sheet icon (looks like a rectangle with an arrow pointing up) and from here you can select more pictures to share and how you'd like to share them.
  5. An Airdrop icon will appear just below your selected pictures. For devices that are enabled to share, you just tap that device name and the pictures will transfer right away.
  6. If Airdrop isn't enabled on your iPhone, you will be prompted to enable it from this screen, or go to Settings > General > AirDrop. From here you can enable and disable Airdrop, and control who can see your device.

How to Transfer Photos from Your Phone to Computer Using Email

You can also use the email app of your choice on your phone to send yourself pictures on your computer. This eliminates the need for any wires or funky adapters. However, this method only works if you're transferring one or two photos. Your email will have a size limit for attachments which photos can quickly exceed:

If you use Gmail, you can attach as many as you want. Gmail will automatically create a Google Drive folder with all your photos if the size gets too big.

  1. Open the email app of your choice.
  2. Add your own email address as the recipient.
  3. For the subject line, use something related to what you're sending, so you know what email to look out for.
  4. Select the paperclip icon to attach a photo. Find the right photo in your gallery and confirm it's the one you want to send.
  5. Send the email, as there's no need for text in the body email.
  6. On your computer, go to your email and find the email you just sent yourself.
  7. Hover your mouse cursor over the photo and select Download or the download icon (typically looks like an arrow pointing down), then select where you want to save the photo on your computer. This is virtually the same whether you're on Mac or PC.

How to Transfer Photos from Your Phone to Computer Using Wireless Apps

There are other options available if you prefer to avoid cords and the tedious nature of emailing yourself photos.

If you're going from Android to Mac, try the AirDroid app. You'll need an AirDroid account, the devices you're transferring photos between to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and have AirDroid installed to both devices.

For iPhone to Mac transfers, the method is simple if you have iCloud enabled. This stores all of your photos in the cloud, and any of your devices connected to your Apple account can access them.

If you're transferring photos from either iOS or Android phones to a PC, you need Windows 10 to go wireless. You'll need to download and set up the Microsoft Phone Companion app and follow the instructions here.

The Photos for Mac app and iCloud Photo Library are great options for those who want to rely on Apple to store their images. But if iCloud's not your thing, you're not out of luck: You can also use iTunes or another third-party cloud service to sync images between your computer and your iPhone or iPad.

How to upload photos and video if you have iCloud Photo Library enabled

Apple's iCloud Photo Library remains perhaps the best way to keep your photos in sync between your Mac, PC, and any iPhones or iPads you own.

Reminder: iCloud Photo Library uses your iCloud storage: If you have lots of photos and video content, you're likely going to need to upgrade your storage tier.

There are a few different ways to transfer photos and video from your Mac and PC using iCloud Photo Library, which are outlined below.

Newer Macs: Use Photos for Mac

Running OS X Yosemite or later and use Photos for Mac with iCloud Photo Library enabled? Your images and video should automatically show up* on all devices where you've connected your iCloud account.

*Depending on whether you've chosen to Optimize Storage (which will display all your content as thumbnails but will only store a fraction of them at full resolution locally) or Download and Keep Originals (which will download all your content at full resolution).

  1. Launch the Photos app.
  2. Click Photos on the top left of your screen and select Preferences.
  3. Make sure the iCloud Photos option is checked.

If you're enabling iCloud Photos for the first time, you may have to wait for up to 24 hours before your content is fully synced with your iOS device(s). (Also note that your iPhone or iPad won't sync with iCloud Photo Library unless they're connected to a Wi-Fi network, to keep from running up your cellular bill.)

Once your content is synced, however, you'll be able to view any photos and video from the Photos app directly on your iPhone or iPad.

Older Macs: Use iCloud Photo Sharing

If you're using an older computer that doesn't support Photos for Mac, you can still sync your Mac's photos and video to your iPhone or iPad using iCloud's older image-sharing features. (It's my favorite hack for getting images from the now-discontinued iPhoto or Aperture onto your iOS devices.)

  1. Launch Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Photos.

  3. Make sure iCloud Photos and Shared Albums settings are enabled.

  4. On your Mac, open iPhoto or Aperture.
  5. Click the pictures you want to upload.
  6. Click Add To > iCloud or Share > iCloud with your picture selected to create a new Shared Photo Stream.

Name your stream something like 'Mac images' and share it with your Apple ID; within minutes, it should start to populate on your iPhone or iPad under the Shared tab in the Photos app if you have an internet connection.

From there, you can view those images and download them locally to your device (putting them in the queue to be uploaded to your iCloud Photo Library) by selecting one, tapping the Share button, and hitting Save Image. (You can also select multiple or all photos and video by tapping the Select button within a shared album.)

PCs: Use the iCloud for Windows app

While PC users may not have the benefit of a full Photos for Windows app, they can still use Apple's iCloud for Windows integration.

Once you've downloaded iCloud for Windows, you can set up iCloud Photo Library on your devices.

  1. Launch Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Photos.

  3. Make sure iCloud Photos and Shared Albums settings are enabled.

  4. Open the iCloud for Windows app.

  5. Enable the Photos checkbox.

  6. Click the Options button.

  7. Enable iCloud Photo Library. You can also choose whether to automatically upload new photos from your PC and enable Apple's iCloud Photo Sharing feature.

  8. Press Done.
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Navigate to the File Explorer and find iCloud Photos (it should display under Devices and drives).
  11. Right-click on iCloud Photos.
  12. Select Pin to Quick Access.

From there, you can sync your images and video.

How To Download From Google Photos To Mac Computer

  1. Open the iCloud Photos screen from the File Explorer.

  2. Click on Add photos or videos.

  3. Chose the content you wish to sync from your computer.
  4. When finished, press Done.

On the go: Upload your photos via iCloud.com

Whether you've chosen to use a different content management program like Lightroom or you don't have access to your normal computer, you can still quickly upload images to iCloud Photo Library using iCloud.com.

Note: iCloud.com doesn't currently support uploading videos at this time.

  1. Make sure you have iCloud Photos enabled on your iOS devices.
  2. Visit icloud.com and log in.

  3. Click the Photos icon.

  4. Once everything loads, click the Upload button (looks like an up arrow to a cloud icon).

  5. Choose the images from your hard drive that you'd like to upload.

A processing bar appears at the bottom to upload however many items you've chosen. If you wish to stop the upload, you can tap Stop Upload in the bottom right corner.

And that's all there is to it! Apple's upload script is still very rudimentary — a simple file picker — and as such, you might find it tricky for uploading large numbers of pictures, which is something to keep in mind!

How to use iTunes if you don't have iCloud Photo Library enabled

If you don't have iCloud Photo Library enabled (and yes, you really should) on your iPhone or iPad, are using older hardware, or you prefer to avoid it entirely, you can use iTunes to sync your Mac or PC's images to your iPhone. Here's how.

Prefer iTunes syncing to iCloud? No problem. It's a piece of cake to get your images from Photos — or old versions of iPhoto or Aperture — to your iPhone or iPad, and you've got plenty of options for what you'd like to sync: albums, events (dates), and faces (people based on facial recognition), or individually choose a combination of albums, events, and faces that you want to sync.

  1. Organize your photos accordingly in iPhoto, Photos, or Aperture.
  2. Plug your iPad or iPhone into to your Mac.
  3. Launch iTunes, if it doesn't open automatically.
  4. Click on the iOS device icon in the top bar, then click the Photos tab.
  5. Click the checkbox next to Sync Photos.
  6. Click Photos, iPhoto, or Aperture from the 'Copy photos from' drop-down menu.
  7. Click the options you prefer.
  8. Click Sync in the bottom right corner.

Your iPhone or iPad will then copy over all the images you've selected.

Move photos from your PC to iOS via iTunes

If you're using external folders to organize your content on a PC or Mac, you can also sync your iPhone or iPad from that specific folder.

  2. Plug your iPad or iPhone into your Mac or PC.
  3. Launch iTunes, if it doesn't open automatically.
  4. Click on the iOS device icon in the top bar, then click the Photos tab.
  5. Click the checkbox next to Sync Photos.
  6. Select 'Choose folder' from the drop-down menu.
  7. Click your desired folder.
  8. Click to sync All folders or Selected folders, and whether or not to include video.
  9. Click Sync in the bottom right corner.

How to use AirDrop to transfer photos from your Mac to your iPhone or iPad

If you have a Mac that supports AirDrop, you can wirelessly transfer batches of photos and videos from your Mac to your iPhone or iPad.

  1. Select the photos or video you'd like to transfer in the Finder window.
  2. In a new Finder window or tab, click AirDrop from the side menu.
  3. Make sure your iPhone or iPad is unlocked and awake.
  4. Confirm that your iPhone has AirDrop receiving set to on and Everyone.
  5. Drag your selected files to the iPhone or iPad option in AirDrop on your Mac.
  6. Depending on whether you're transferring to a device with the same Apple ID or not, you may need to tap Accept on your iPhone or iPad.

From there, all selected photos and video will transfer. This works better for small batches of images, rather than your entire photo library; if you want to transfer your entire Mac library, you may be better off using iTunes or iCloud Photo Library.

How to use Dropbox to transfer photos from your Mac to your iPhone or iPad

If you're not interested in using iCloud Photo Library, iTunes, or quick fixes like AirDrop, you can still view and share pictures from your Mac or PC: Use Dropbox.

Dropbox actually has a pretty good walkthrough and upload tool for adding images to your online storage space; alternatively, you can even drop your Photos library into Dropbox whole-hog and have those images show up in the Dropbox app — though I'd recommend doing that to a copy of your Photos Library, not the original, so as to prevent any potential sync errors.
