All four versions of the NETGEAR WNR1000 router ship with these defaults:
- Password: password(case sensitive).
- Username: admin.
- IP address: 192.168.1.1, which is common to most routers.
If the Default Password Doesn't Work
If the default password doesn't work for your WNR1000 router, someone (probably you) changed it at some point. Despite the fact that you've forgotten it, changing the default password is a good security practice.
Fortunately, all you have to do is reset your router back to its factory default settings. This will remove not only the password you've forgotten but also the username, and will restore both to the credentials above.
Reset and restart are two entirely separate concepts. Simply restarting the router doesn't reset the software; it merely starts a new session using the same login credentials.
Check that the power cable is plugged in and that the router is on.
Turn the WNR1000 around so you have access to the back panel.
Stick a paperclip or some other sharp, small object into the Reset hole to strike the button, and hold it down for five to 10 seconds or until the power light blinks.
Wait at least30 seconds for the router to finish resetting. When the power light stops blinking and becomes a solid color, the reset is complete.
Unplug the power cable for a few seconds. Then, plug it back in to reboot the router.
Wait another 30 seconds or so for the WNR1000 to boot up.
The router has now been reset, so you can log in to with the default credentials from above at http://192.168.1.1. Use admin for the username and password for the password.
Your password should be complex and hard to guess. Use a free password manager to avoid forgetting it again.
Restore Your Preferred Settings
Reenter the other custom settings if you want your router back in the same state it was in before you reset it. If you had a wireless network configured, for example, enter the SSID and password you want to use. The same is true for other custom settings, such as DNS servers.
To avoid having to enter all this information again should you ever reset your router in the future, back up the router's settings to a file. Find the details for backing up and restoring the router's configuration in Chapter 6 of the WNR1000 manual, in the 'Managing the Configuration File' section. (Links are below.)
What to Do When You Can't Access the Router
By default, you can access the NETGEAR WNR1000 router at http://192.168.1.1, unless the IP address has been changed since it was first set up.
Fortunately, you don't have to reset the whole router just to learn its IP address. Instead, use a computer that's connected to the router to find the default gateway.

Now the Nighthawk has always been an incredible product for any gamer but with it now being powered by DumaOS, this router is a step above anything I've seen.
Works great for gaming, allows you to monitor your actual connectivity during game play, can adjust individual connection on multiple game console, so other WiFi electronics doesn’t pull you down , it actually gives you control of your internet speed once it in the house, so far I love it!
Cons: This has definitely been the best router I have tried for gaming, the one nice difference in this over the netduma is the ability to change your LAN ip in its entirity. The other dumaos stuff is there with netgear features. Strong wireless signal, all in all best I have tried.
